WebRoute Summary. Make a wide loop through Bear Mountain Reservation, including visits to Candlewood Lake and the summit of Bear Mountain. From the parking lot, start on Red Trail. Soon you will reach an intersection where Red Trail splits. For now, take the right-hand branch; we will return via the opposite leg. Keep following Red Trail for a while. WebLocated within Bear Mountain State Park, it's an easy (15-20 minute) walk from the Inn's parking lot. Admission is free but suggested donation is a $1 a person. Along the way to the Trailside zoo, you will pass Hessian Lake for some scenic views and a large picnic area.
